Air conditioning improves the air quality inside your home

  • Wednesday, 28th August, 2019

Do you know how clean the air is inside your home? For most of us, it isn’t something we would normally consider, however for those that suffer from respiratory conditions and asthmatics it is something worth thinking about.

From dust and smoke, to pollen and mould there are many pollutants in the air that can affect the health of you and your family. Location, ventilation and whether or not your home is carpeted can all influence the quality of the air inside your home.

Air conditioning is one od the best solutions to improve indoor air quality, as it increases ventilation and air flow. Another recommendation is to get carpets professionally cleaned, as well as fixing any leaks or areas of dampness in the home.

Symptoms of poor indoor air quality may include:

  • Cold like symptoms such as dry eyes and a sore throat
  • Sinus congestion
  • Allergies and sneezing
  • Dampness or mould growing on walls or ceilings
  • And in extreme cases, nausea and dizziness

With a lot of these symptoms relating to the common cold, it can be difficult to identify as the air quality. But if left untreated for those with existing respiratory conditions, this can become dangerous.

If your symptoms seem elevated in certain rooms, or you find that allergies are occurring regularly at home, but not at other places, it is a sure sign that your indoor air quality needs to be addressed.

How can air conditioning provide better air quality?

Air conditioning removes many pollutants from the air through filters which enables a healthier indoors. Moisture in the air can also be reduced to decrease the threat of mould growth in the walls and ceiling. However, the air filters and duct work must be cleaned regularly so that dust, mould spores and other pollutants do not accumulate.
