We offer solutions to allow ducted air conditioning to be installed into an existing two storey house, as well as for new builds. The ducts are run vertically from the roof space through wardrobes and cupboards, or in some cases, through specially designed bulkheads. These ducts are called ‘droppers’.
Duct sizes are typically 250mm in diameter, however in larger houses when more air is required, 300mm ducting are run. If the duct is being run into a smaller room, such as a bedroom, a smaller duct size is recommended.
The same dropper method is used for existing houses. Although there are some restrictions to existing houses, like the inability to run ducts horizontally between floors due to the ceiling of the lower level already being plastered. In cases such as these, the air outlet can only be directly below the cupboard or wardrobe in which the dropper is located.
In both new builds and existing homes the droppers are then framed around, then plastered over so they are not visible, as seen in the images below.
