Can ducted air conditioning be installed in a two storey house?

Yes!

We offer solutions to allow ducted air conditioning to be installed into an existing two storey house, as well as for new builds. The ducts are run vertically from the roof space through wardrobes and cupboards, or in some cases, through specially designed bulkheads. These ducts are called ‘droppers’.

Duct sizes are typically 250mm in diameter, however in larger houses when more air is required, 300mm ducting are run. If the duct is being run into a smaller room, such as a bedroom, a smaller duct size is recommended.

The same dropper method is used for existing houses. Although there are some restrictions to existing houses, like the inability to run ducts horizontally between floors due to the ceiling of the lower level already being plastered. In cases such as these, the air outlet can only be directly below the cupboard or wardrobe in which the dropper is located.

In both new builds and existing homes the droppers are then framed around, then plastered over so they are not visible, as seen in the images below.

Once a year is usually enough for most homes. For commercial systems or heavy use, more frequent servicing may be recommended.

Do you service systems you didn’t install?
How long does a standard service take?

Most services take between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on the system size and condition.

What are the signs my system needs repairs?

If it’s not cooling or heating properly, making strange noises, leaking, or pushing out weak airflow — it’s time to get it checked.

We don’t offer 24/7 emergency work, but we respond quickly during business hours and aim to prioritise urgent issues.
